Beyond Bioplastic

Ever thought your old bioplastic cup or t-shirt could be part of something bigger?
Right now, most biodegradable plastics end up burned or composted, releasing CO2 into the air and missing their chance to shine. But, this bioplastic waste could become the start of something new—thanks to some incredible bacteria!

At Wageningen University, we’ve developed a cutting-edge microbial recycling process where bacteria eat up bioplastic waste and transform it into useful chemicals for creating fresh, new bioplastics. This isn’t just recycling—it’s a complete makeover for bioplastic waste.

Our project ‘Beyond Bioplastic’ is bringing this technology to life, scaling up from the lab to handle all kinds of mixed and dirty bioplastics. We’re working with partners to create a vibrant ecosystem that takes this innovative solution from the lab to the real world, turning waste into opportunity.

By joining forces, we’re paving the way for a cleaner, more circular future. Get ready to rethink waste and be part of the change—we’re just getting started!
