Announcement round 2027  

After three project rounds in our program, we are excited to share that the upcoming 2027 round will be opening soon for pre-application! If you have an innovative biotech idea aimed to create impact, continue reading below to learn how you can apply for Biotech Booster funding and guidance.  

Please note: the information below is an initial overview. More detailed information will follow in the coming weeks. 

 

Important dates:

  • Pre-application for Level 2: opens on August 25, 2026 and closing on September 8th, 2026 at 14.00 CET  
  • Pre-application of Level 1: opens in Q4 2026

General information

What you can apply for

The Biotech Booster program helps turn scientific discoveries in biotechnology into societal impact, while strengthening the Dutch research, development, and innovation ecosystem. The program supports early-stage innovation projects on their path to valorization by providing not only funding, but also access to the right expertise and networks to accelerate commercialization.  

Two types of projects are eligible for financial support:  

  • Level 1: Proof of Principle: early-stage projects (up to €200,000). Ideas that could work on scientific grounds, but whose practical operation and commercial feasibility have yet to be demonstrated. 
  • Level 2: Proof of Concept: more advanced projects (up to €1.9 million). Ideas whose proof of principle have been demonstrated and that can be developed into a practicable and commercially feasible process or product.  

Who can apply

  • Level 1 (L1) applicants: knowledge and research institutes and start-ups that use knowledge generated by a Dutch knowledge institute.  
  • Level 2 (L2) applicants: start-ups, companies, research organizations and/or knowledge institutes.    

Level 1

Pre-application Level 1
  • Pre-application of L1 opens Q4 2026. The complete call information will be available in September, 2026. We encourage you to get in touch with the Knowledge Transfer Office of your knowledge institute to develop your project idea. You can reach out to a Biotech Booster business or impact developer for more information about the Biotech Booster program. 
  • A pre-application form will be accessible once the round is open. An example will be available in September.
Save these dates for the Level 1 information sessions:

Selected pre-applications will be invited for the rest of the application & selection process (November, 2026 – April, 2027) 

Level 2

Pre-application Level 2:
  • Pre-application for L2 opens on August 25, 2026 and closes on September 8th, 2026 at 14.00 CET.   
  • The tools you will use to apply are a pre-application form and pitch deck.   
  • Complete call information will be available on August 5, 2026. 
Your pre-application will be evaluated and selected based on the following criteria:
  • Your technology is validated in the lab, you have gained insights into users and/or customers, and outlined a viable business model, technology roadmap, and IP strategy. 
  • Your problem– solution hypothesis makes clear in which of the (five) TC themes within the Biotech Booster program the activities best fit.  
  • Your proposed activities concern part of biotechnology or are particularly relevant to biotechnology and are aimed at advancing knowledge from research and the proof of principle towards a practically executable process or product (IRL 5-6).
