Announcement 2027 round: opening soon  

After three successful project rounds, the 2027 Biotech Booster round will soon open for pre-applications. For each round, funding is available up to €200.000 for Level 1 projects and €1.9 million for Level 2 projects. For the subsidy scheme and eligibility criteria, please visit this DUS-I page.

  • Level 2 pre-applications: opens on August 25, 2026 and closes on September 8, 2026 at 14.00 CET

Biotech Booster is a national program that helps researchers and founders in the Netherlands transform promising Dutch biotechnology discoveries into investable and commercially viable propositions with societal and economic impact. Through funding, mentorship and access to a nationwide network including seasoned entrepreneurs, industry partners and leading knowledge institutes, Biotech Booster supports your journey from early-stage idea to market-ready innovation.

Level 2: Application Process

The Level 2 program supports promising biotech teams, that have moved beyond proof-of-principle, in generating proof-of-concept data and reaching the next key value-inflection point. Through this call, up to €1.9 million will be invested in projects with strong commercialization potential, committed team and realistic plan.

This document contains essential information to help you prepare and navigate the application process smoothly.

Submit pre-application

Portal will open on August 25. 
Deadline:
September 8, 2026 at 14:00 CEST

An online pre-application is mandatory for this funding call – an example is available here. Your pre-application must demonstrate that your project fits the Biotech Booster program and includes:

You will be informed by Friday, October 9, 2026 at the latest whether your project idea aligns with the objectives of the Biotech Booster subsidy scheme and whether you are invited to submit a full application.

By Friday, December 11, 2026 you will be informed whether your application has been selected for an interview with the Biotech Booster Panel. Please note: The review and selection process is based solely on the information provided in the submitted documents.

Interview by Biotech Booster panel

Interview dates: January 7 – 14, 2027

Interviews will take place in person in Utrecht from January 7 – 14, 2027. You will receive your time slot by Friday, December 18, 2026. Interview dates cannot be rescheduled. More details are available in the Applicant guide.

By Friday, January 22, 2027 you will be informed whether your application may proceed to pitch to the Panel of Entrepreneurs. 

Pitch to Panel of Entrepreneurs

Pitch dates: March 1–5, 2027 
Deadline final application: February 9, 2027 at 14:00 CET

Submit the revised documents in the list below by 9 February 2027, 14:00 CET:

  • Business plan 
  • Success sharing proposal  
  • Slide deck  
  • Video 
  • Budget application form
    Please also provide supporting validation documents, such as quotations. 
  • Signed TC agreement
    This can be done by signing TC agreement Annex 5.

Pitches take place in person from March 1–5, 2027. You will receive your time slot by February 12, 2027. Pitch dates cannot be rescheduled. A pitch workshop will be organized on February 4, 2027 to help you prepare. 

The final selection outcome will be communicated by March 19, 2027.

Negotiations and DUS-I submission

Selected projects will be invited to submit their grant application to DUS-I. Biotech Booster acts as the main applicant on behalf of the consortium and will apply for and receive the Level 2 Proof-of-Concept subsidy on behalf of the consortium.

  • Selection outcome communicated by Friday, March 19, 2027.
  • Only selected projects can proceed to DUS-I submission. 
  • Agreements on milestone payments, success sharing and project governance need to be finalized before submission to DUS-I can take place. 
  • Formal DUS-I submission deadline expected on Tuesday, September 15, 2027 at 23:59 CEST. 
  • DUS-I will perform a final check, which may take up to 13 weeks.
  • Projects can start after DUS-I confirmation and within 6 months of submission. 
  • A Project Steering Committee (PSC) will be formed in consultation with Biotech Booster and the project team. The PSC will include seasoned entrepreneurs and experts, and will advise, monitor progress, and evaluate milestones of the project.

Level 1
Proof of Principle

An idea that could work on scientific grounds, but whose practical operation and commercial feasibility has yet to be demonstrated. 

Who can apply

All researchers, project teams, and innovative starters affiliated with a knowledge institute who have the ambition to valorize their scientific biotech ideas into practical applications and commercially viable products or services.

Key dates
  • Pre-application of L1 opens Q4 2026. The complete call information will be available in September, 2026. We encourage you to get in touch with the Knowledge Transfer Office of your knowledge institute to develop your project idea. You can reach out to a Biotech Booster business or impact developer for more information about the Biotech Booster program. 
  • A pre-application form will be accessible once the round is open. An example will be available in September.

All information shared during the application is treated as confidential information. The information will be shared with Biotech Booster, Biotech Booster-affiliated impact- and business developers and external advisors. We have confidentiality agreements in place with all parties we work with.
