How do we ensure that research doesn’t just stay on paper, but actually contributes to solving real-world challenges in society, in the market, or within organisations? That question was at the heart of the workshop our Impact Developer Annemieke van der Goot led at last week’s HBO Festival: “Valorisation of Practice-Based Research: The Key to Impact and Innovation.”
Together with an inspiring panel, they explored the opportunities and challenges of valorisation within universities of applied sciences (UAS). Because developing knowledge is one thing — but how do you make sure it lands, makes a difference, drives change?
A special spotlight was on the role of Impact Developers within the Biotech Booster program. Impact Developers play a key role in connecting research outcomes to real-world applications.
The Unique Power of UAS in Driving Innovation
One thing became crystal clear during the discussion: universities of applied sciences are uniquely positioned to make research matter. With their strong regional networks, close ties to industry and civil society, and the integration of research and education, UAS are exceptionally well equipped to turn practice-based research into practical solutions.
Especially in times of rapid societal transitions, UAS can act as powerful engines for meaningful innovation — both locally and nationally.
