Speakers
Willemijn Vader, PhD – CEO Vitroscan B.V.
Willemijn, CEO at Vitroscan, is a seasoned entrepreneur devoted to turning breakthrough solutions into market‑ready products. With a Ph.D. in immunology from LUMC and 13 years at Sanofi, she has over 20 years of oncology expertise. Since the founding of VitroScan in 2016, she has mobilized medical partner collaborations, closed multiple funding rounds, delivered solid proof‑of‑concept data, and built grant consortia to secure financing, all driven by a personal commitment to improve treatment efficacy and patients’ quality of life.
Joris Schuurmans – CEO Delta Life Science
Joris Schuurmans serves as Chairman of the Project Steering Committee of ChemoPredict, and in his daily professional life, he is primarily the CEO of Delta Life Science.
With extensive experience in the life sciences sector, Joris brings strategic oversight and leadership to the ChemoPredict project. In the Biotech Booster session, he will share insights from both his role within the Project SteerCo and his broader perspective as a CEO, reflecting on governance, growth, and long-term value creation within the life sciences ecosystem.
Jo Bury, Former Managing Director VIB
Jo Bury is the former managing director of VIB, the Flanders Institute for Biotechnology. Jo has a Master’s degree in Pharmacy and is PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences (University of Gent). He obtained an MBA degree at the Vlerick School for Management in Gent. After performing scientific research in the field of atherosclerosis during several years, he has made a career in science policy. He previously held the post of Operational Director of VLAB (Flanders’ Action Programme on Biotechnology) and science advisor at federal and regional granting bodies (IWONL-INSIA, IWT).
VIB is a life science research institute where 1.500 scientists and technicians study the molecular mechanisms of growth and development of different organisms (human beings, plants, micro-organisms) in normal (health) vs abnormal (disease, stress) conditions. The focus is strategic basic research with potential applications (in the long term) in molecular medicine and molecular farming. VIB is a multisite institution, integrated within the campuses of the universities of Ghent, Leuven, Brussels, Antwerp and Hasselt, based on a joint venture agreement of VIB with these 5 partner universities. Through the performance of its scientists, VIB has become a center of excellence in life science research in Europe.
Adnan Oner, Founder Farmless
Adnan Oner (1988) is a Dutch physicist with a Master’s degree in Theoretical and Mathematical Physics. After founding several startups, he decided that his next startup should have as much impact as possible. He started looking for overlooked solutions to climate change, reading hundreds of papers and talked to dozens of experts. This five year journey led him to a neglected startup idea: fermentation without agricultural land.
In 2022, Adnan founded Farmless. By using a renewable, agriculture independent feedstock, Farmless produces food up to 5000 times more efficiently than animal farming. Considering that animal agriculture occupies up to 80% of all agricultural land, agriculture independent fermentation has the potential to significantly reduce the footprint of protein production. Adnan‘s vision with Farmless is to enable large-scale reforestation, reverse biodiversity loss, and draw down gigatons of carbon.
