Project

GOA@EASE

Climate change, pollution, and population growth are placing immense strain on the earth and our oceans. To preserve the world around us for future generations, we need to revolutionize our economy and embrace more sustainable ways of life. At GOA Ventures, we believe seaweed can be part of the solution.

Seaweeds, while currently underexploited, harbour great potential. This marine crop contains many valuable components with applications in food, bioenergy, pharma, and biomaterials. At the same time, seaweed cultivation requires no land, freshwater, or pesticides, giving it an exceptionally low carbon footprint. GOA Ventures provides mild, biobased processing technologies for fresh seaweed, allowing us to produce multiple valuable products from every kilogram.

We focus on producing functional food protein and biogas from fresh seaweed biomass. This approach enables us to contribute to both the protein and energy transitions. Seaweed not only absorbs carbon dioxide during growth, but seaweed-based products also help avoid the carbon footprint associated with the animal protein and fossil fuels they replace. This is the impact that motivates GOA every day.

With the help of Biotech Booster B.V., we launched the GOA@EASE project in 2025. Within this project, we are establishing a seaweed processing unit on the Dutch coastline in Yerseke. GOA@EASE will produce functional proteins and biogas from fresh seaweed. By studying seasonal changes in seaweed composition, we will adapt our process to ensure consistent, year-round output. This facility will help validate our technology, optimize yields, explore food applications and safety, and assess ecological impact.
